Daisy Turner

Vermont Storyteller Daisy Turner is the daughter of the formerly enslaved Alec and Sally Turner who settled in Grafton, Vermont in the years following the Civil War. Daisy’s well-documented gifts as a storyteller has preserved the Turner family tale. The Turners are vital to the story of African American heritage in Vermont. Daisy Turner’s stories have been both printed (“Daisy Turner’s Kin”) and recorded (Exhibited at the Middlebury based Folklife Center).

About the Research sites

The Brattleboro Words Project is working with the community to identify specific sites and themes significant to the study of words in Brattleboro and surrounding towns. Research Teams – classrooms/teachers, amateur historians, veterans, writers, artists and other community members — will produce audio segments and other work to be incorporated into audio walking, biking and driving tours tours.
