Plaza Park was created making a pleasant view for disembarking train passengers. Visitors had their first glimpse of Brattleboro when they departed a train and walked into town. Also greeting them was a fountain placed in May of 1924 crowned with sculptor Daniel Chester French’s ‘Spirit of Life’ bronze statue.

Between 1882 and 1886 the library was in the Town Hall.
In 1886, benefactor George Brooks funded the construction of a new library building. Brooks planned and constructed the library. An 1887 Library booklet claims a collection of 5,000 volumes.
By 1912, it was time for an addition. Mrs. Henrietta Loud offered a $3000 donation. Mrs. Loud donated a valuable collection of fine art. The library has been a showcase for artwork and an intellectual hub for the region.
